The core functions of this position include but are not limited to the following:

Program/Project Management

1. Oversees CURRENTS’ production processes, including working with the editor in chief, deputy editor, senior editors, art director, designer, marketing department, advertising sales firm, and printer to make sure that each issue of the magazine is produced on time and within budget. Sets and maintains the production schedule for each issue as well as the annual production schedule.

2. Copy edits all copy for the magazine, ensuring that articles adhere to CURRENTS and AP style. Fact-checks all appropriate data. Coordinates and writes back-of-the book sections and writes short pieces for the Advance Work section, as necessary. Writes issue summaries and a short piece for BriefCASE each month that promotes a CURRENTS article. Proofreads entire magazine once in layouts.

3. Oversees CURRENTS’ web presence, including helping the editor establish policies, ensuring that each issue is featured on the web in a timely and appropriate way, reviewing all articles in the Content Management System (CMS) and publishing each issue online, and coordinating the development of the CURRENTS archives. The production editor also works with a vendor to produce a digital edition of each issue and with CASE Online Communications to promote the magazine via email and social media such as Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter.

4. Follows the field of advancement and participates in the overall planning for each issue and the annual editorial meeting.

Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related discipline and three to five years of experience in editing, writing, and production on a magazine or daily newspaper.

Skills and Abilities: Strong editing and writing skills, solid understanding of grammar rules and familiarity of AP style, working knowledge of magazine management and production, experience working with a content management system, and proven skills in managing time, multiple and concurrent project details, and multiple priorities. This job requires extreme attention to detail. Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently and professionally with all CASE constituents required
