The Position: The Impact Writer will be tasked with reporting on the many facets of ULI and the intellectual content it produces. The Impact Writer is part of ULI’s Strategic Communications department.

The Impact Writer will cover ULI in the broadest sense, writing about the activities, events, and publications generated throughout the organization, including headquarters, ULI’s 51 District Councils throughout the United States and Canada, and National Councils in Europe and the Asia Pacific region.

The Impact Writer will be able to tell compelling stories in any format, including full-length features for Urban Land magazine, online articles, profiles, in-depth interviews, press releases, newsletter articles, and narratives for short films and broadcasts. The Impact Writer will also be the project manager for the Annual Report and is expected to produce a large amount of content that is reliably accurate, concise, varied, and interesting.

In addition to outstanding writing ability and news sense, the successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills and be highly organized and self-motivated. The candidate must be able to work as part of a global communications team; occasional travel is involved. ULI is working to develop a world that is healthy, sustainable, and successful; the Impact Writer will tell the stories of how the Institute is doing that.

Requirements:

•A bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or English.
•Three years of solid experience in a related role writing for magazines, newspapers, newsletters, websites, or broadcast media.
•Published clips or links demonstrating experience writing online articles, profiles, in-depth interviews, press releases, and newsletter articles.
•An understanding of—and passion for—real estate, planning, and land use are desirable.
•Demonstrated project management skills.
•Strong interpersonal skills.
•A high level of organization and self-motivation.
•A willingness to travel occasionally.
