The Atlantic Council seeks an entrepreneurial and internet savvy web and social media content editor for a full time position. The ideal candidate will develop and implement a comprehensive editorial strategy and manage, edit and draft web content/substance on a broad range of national security and foreign policy issues.

S/he will serve as managing editor of the Council’s website and plan and implement a cutting edge social media strategy that increases the reach and impact of our burgeoning social media activities.

This individual will supervise a growing editorial team to leverage the expertise of Council staff and to advance the mission of fostering US-European cooperation to tackle global challenges and build communities of influence.

The Senior Web will manage the Council’s overall editorial strategy, as well as efforts to support the work of the Council’s ten programs and centers. The ideal candidate will have an interest in international relations and public policy. S/he will communicate effectively, and enjoy a fast paced team environment and working under the pressure of time. S/he will have a strong understanding of how design and placement on the web impact reach and visibility. The position requires a record of managing an editorial team, excellent administrative and communication skills, superior writing ability and attention to detail.

Job Responsibilities:

• Coordinate, package and publish content from the Council’s ten centers;
• Commission and edit external work that advances the Council’s priorities;
• Develop and communicate editorial and social media policies across the institution;
• Edit reports and blog posts submitted by scholars; develop a comprehensive blog strategy;
• Draft event summaries and occasional oped, letters to the editor, and other external facing products;
• Work with Communications team to produce video scripts for promotional videos;
• Work closely with Communications Director to determine daily editorial schedule;
• Develop strategy for Atlantic Council social media accounts on Facebook, Twitter, Google+, YouTube, LinkedIn and more;
• Promote the social media feeds of scholars; train staff on social media platforms.

Job Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or Communications or related field; Master’s Degree preferred;
• Minimum of 8 - 10 years of relevant work experience in related field required;
• Superior writing and editing skills with demonstrated experience as fast and clear writer who can edit substantive material; experience writing and editing for web a must;
• Demonstrated experience with social media and emerging trends in digital communication;
• Excellent news judgment and ability to ensure high editorial and research standards under tight deadlines;
• Excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills, including tact, flexibility, professionalism and discretion;
• Demonstrated ability to take initiative, manage multiple priorities, organize time effectively, and complete assignments on time and follow-up with strong attention to detail;
• Superior people management skills with the ability to communicate at all levels of the organization;
• Ability to work irregular hours, evenings and occasional weekends;
• Demonstrated interest in and knowledge of international affairs and a commitment to the mission and goals of the Atlantic Council;
• Demonstrated initiative and ability to work well with a team in a dynamic environment;
• Experience in think tank environment desirable.
