America Abroad Media (AAM) seeks a creative and entrepreneurial Website and Digital Communications Manager to play a critical role in three key areas:
- Redesigning AAM’s website
- Marketing efforts related to AAM’s annual Awards Dinner in October, 2014
- Maintaining regular online communications activity

This is an 8-month contract position, with the possibility of extension or full-time employment.


Website Redesign
AAM is partnering with a DC-based interactive agency to overhaul and redesign its website in Drupal 7 in the coming months. Working closely with AAM’s Senior Content Producer, the Website and Digital Communications Manager will:
- Assist with the content audit process
- Help migrate web content
- Tag and categorize online content
- Format and upload web content; edit and crop images for the web
- Help oversee the design/development process, ensuring the project remains on track and on budget, and that requirements and deliverables are met
- Serve as a liaison between the chosen vendor and AAM throughout the process, facilitating communication particularly on technical matters

Marketing for Annual Awards Dinner
AAM will be hosting its second annual Awards Dinner in October, 2014. In support of this event, the Website and Digital Communications Manager will:
- Work with the Director of Operations and Events to conceptualize and develop promotional materials for print, web and social media, as well as some event signage
- Participate in the development of save the dates and invitation, especially electronic versions
- Oversee the organization's online advertising strategy to include print, digital and social media ads
- Assist with press relations as needed

Online Communications and Web Maintenance
The Website and Digital Communications Manager plays a lead role in maintaining and growing AAM’s online communications and reach through the following activites:
- Manage AAM’s e-newsletter communication activities, including developing, testing and scheduling e-blasts, and maintaining and growing e-mail subscriber lists under the guidance of AAM’s president
- Maintain AAM’s website, ensuring regular security updates are completed and content remains accurate and up-to-date
- Monitor and post content to AAM’s social media channels including Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, LinkedIn and YouTube
- Coordinate with vendors as needed on web and communications-related projects, including designers, developers and project managers
- Crop and edit photos and other images for the web; oversee web design and graphic arts as needed
- Work closely with department and program heads to develop ideas for new online initiatives to support AAM's projects, including video, multimedia series and digital campaigns
- Monitor web traffic and report regularly on site metrics to funders
- Maintain and update organizational materials including company letterhead, stationery, fliers and other collateral
- Other duties as assigned

- BA/BS required with 5 years related experience as a web manager/producer/editor or in a similar role
- Experience managing online projects, preferably a website redesign or migration
- Proficiency with content management systems, especially Drupal 7
- Proficient in HTML and CSS
- Familiarity with Google Analytics and social media monitoring tools (Sprout Social)
- Experience creating and distributing e-newsletters (Campaign Monitor), including knowledge of various e-mail clients and mobile testing
- Knowledge of Adobe creative suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator and Dreamweaver)
- Solid understanding of editing and optimizing images for web
- Understanding of social media tools and advertising
- Vendor management experience, especially related to web design and development
- Excellent verbal communication skills with ability to present ideas and information clearly
- Strong attention to detail and proofreading skills
- Demonstrated ability to write clearly and consistently for different audiences
- Ability to work individually and collaborate across departments
- Detail-oriented and extremely organized with an all-hands-on-deck attitude. Must have the ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously, often under tight deadlines

- Solid graphic design skills
- Knowledge of Javascript
- Experience with video editing (Final Cut Pro)
- Ability to create website interactives, such as maps and infographics
- Experience in event production
- Interest in international affairs and media
- Experience at a non-profit organization
