• Assign and edit book reviews in various areas that may include history, reference, religion, sports, and biography;
•Write occasional features for the magazine; conduct interviews with authors and others; compile roundups of books on similar subjects;
•Manage and recruit a stable of reviewers and several columnists;
• Contribute to the production of the magazine, which includes ensuring the most efficient and timely workflow for all sections and adherence to house style. Duties may range from copy editing to production work to reporting and writing, depending on need;
• Support postings to the website, with eye for timeliness, formatting, and style. This includes web-only editorial content as well as some social media;
•Meet and maintain regular contact with publishers;
•Represent Library Journal at conferences and on panels;

• Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications, or other relevant humanities. MLS or MLIS a plus.
• Competency in InCopy, WorldPress, e-newsletter deployment platforms, cloud-based applications;
• Two-years’ experience as an editor essential;
• Strong line-editing, copy-editing skills, familiarity with The Chicago Manual of Style;
• Knowledge about and interest in librarianship and book publishing preferred;
• Detail oriented, and self-starting against deadlines
