BRIC is a multi-disciplinary non-profit dedicated to presenting art and media programs that reflect Brooklyn’s creativity and diversity. BRIC also provides resources to launch, nurture, and showcase artists and media makers. All of BRIC’s offerings are free or low cost, to advance access to and understanding of arts and media. Purpose of Position: The Director of Marketing & Communications helps to set a strategic direction for BRIC’s efforts to attract audiences, and advance stakeholders’ and the public’s understanding and awareness of BRIC and BRIC House. The Director of Marketing & Communications is a member of BRIC’s senior leadership team, and works across all of BRIC’s programs in arts, media and education.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Marketing
•Develop and coordinate the execution of a comprehensive organization-wide marketing plan, including specific programmatic marketing plans and a cohesive social media strategy, to help attract audiences, advance stakeholders’ and the public’s understanding of BRIC and its offerings, and generate awareness of BRIC and BRIC House.
•Provide daily oversight of program marketing efforts, with regular check- ins and mechanisms to foster strong communication and collaboration among different work teams.
•Oversee advancement of BRIC’s branding strategies; provide input on and approve all creative designs and marketing materials, including print, advertising, e-media, and other multi-media assets.
•Direct strategies for maintaining website and social media channels to maintain BRIC’s online persona and ensure timely information on BRIC activities.
•Ensure strong practices for assessment, including participant and member surveys; track key metrics for audience attendance and participation, report on insights and adapt.

Communications
•Develop and coordinate execution of a comprehensive communications strategy to refine and communicate key messages, and advance institutional and programmatic goals, including audience and stakeholder/funder awareness of our activities.
•Identify and prioritize communications opportunities and execute strategies to support them.
•Working with the Director of Development, create communications to support fundraising and membership acquisition.
•Work closely with contracted publicist to engage, cultivate and manage press relationships for institutional and programmatic news, to maintain press lists, and draft and review press releases.
•Prepare/coach senior staff in communications activities.
•Prepare talking points, presentations and other supporting material as needed.
•Coordinate marketing initiatives with members of the Downtown Brooklyn Arts Alliance and other external partners.

Administration
•Supervise six-person marketing team, including an in-house graphic designer.
•Develop organization-wide and program specific marketing budget and ensure appropriate spending in regards to all budgets.
•Advise and brief regularly with President on marketing and press issues; collaborate with senior management team on marketing.
•Provide regular reports to BRIC’s Board of Directors and marketing committee.

Desired Education/Experience/Skills
•At least five years of experience in marketing and press relations, preferably for a cultural organization.
•At least three years of management and supervisory experience.
•Experience in audience assessment and development.
•Excellent planning, writing and presentation skills.
•Excellent attention to detail.
•Experience in team-building and communicating effectively in complex environments.

Schedule
Full-time. Attendance at weekend and evening events may be required.
