Sales and Marketing Manager
The Boston-based Sales & Marketing Manager will lead the sales and marketing operations in North America and will be responsible for selling and marketing the company’s titles in niche and direct areas, as well as to the general trade markets via our new distributor; driving sales revenue by utilizing both traditional and digital formats. The ideal candidate should have excellent analytical, communication and administrative skills, as well as being dynamic, enthusiastic, and resourceful and must have a strong track record in dealing with different sales/marketing channels, including B2B. The Sales & Marketing Manager will be responsible for closely managing inventory on both sides of the Pond, in conjunction with our London office. You should be keen to make a real difference in the company and enjoy the business of creating and implementing effective sales strategies, generating profitable sales, promoting to diverse customers, and working directly with both authors and niche customers. You should enjoy working both as a team, as well as independently, and have an eye for detail as well as the big picture. You will need to be confident in liaising with people across all channels including those based internationally, giving excellent customer service. You must be pro-active and be able to prioritize and problem-solve in a busy environment and have a strong sense of publishing opportunities.Primary Responsibilities: •Manage the relationship with our new North American trade distributor, Consortium Book Sales & Distribution.•Drive the sales effort, including making sales calls, processing major orders, working with our distribution management team, tracking and following up with orders from niche customers.•Work with Marketing to create and communicate powerful pitches and build the company profile and list.•Manage Amazon presence and participate in promotion strategy, as well as sales/promos (both physical and digital) via our website, keeping it updated and topical.•Seek out bulk sales, and special sales, opportunities in the B2B as well as consumer markets in digital as well as print.•Identify and maintain contact with libraries, college bookstores, independents, etc.•Manage inventory, including working directly with our London office. Dispense and evaluate daily/weekly/monthly sales reports. •Work with marketing to develop plans for each season’s list, bringing fresh and innovative ideas to the table.•Oversee metadata and help build content management systems. •Build and maintain a sales contact database.•Work with, and present to, our sales force, prepare for trade shows, help create sales kits, generate sales/marketing materials, catalogs, etc.•Communicate with authors regarding the sales and marketing of their titles.•Work with e-book partners to drive sales through promotions and identify additional e-book partners and put contracts in place where applicable. Qualifications: •This is a hands on position. Background in non-fiction trade/professional book publishing, previous management experience, and 5-8 years’ experience is preferred.•A strong network of sales contacts is a definite plus.•An energetic, proactive individual with outstanding communications skills, creativity and enthusiasm is essential.•A self-motivated, hands-on, goal-oriented project manager, with excellent time management skills, solid organizational and problem-solving skills, and a strong collaborative sense is desired. •Experience with Consortium or Perseus distribution a plus.•International experience, and knowledge to facilitate good communication, understanding and working relationships within the whole Nicholas Brealey Group •Excellent analytical, communication and administration skills required.
