The Managing Editor is responsible for managing all title assets from contract through to the distribution of content both in print and online. Responsibilities include:

Author management: providing guidance on the proper submission of manuscript and art, scheduling of all processes, reviewing manuscripts and art to assure compliance with Thieme standards while working closely with the Acquisition Editor(s) to assure that the vision of the project stays on target.

Manuscript and art processing: checking the submitted manuscript and art for quality and completeness, arranging the acquisition of new illustrations when necessary, coordinating further processing steps with both internal and external service providers always with an eye on staying on budget and meeting crucial deadlines.

Finalizing a project for publication: working with Production Editor(s) on art processing; reviewing copy-editing, approving the manuscript for production; working with our design department on cover design; coordinating the submission and processing of digital ancillary material; enjoying seeing the result of all this hard work in print and digital form.

The ideal candidate will have:
•College degree
•excellent written and verbal communication skills
•the ability to manage several projects simultaneously and effectively
•the ability to think strategically and plan schedules
•prior experience in XML based workflows
•good management skills (The ME assigns, hires, and manages several remote freelance resources)
•several years experience in a similar position in the STM environment preferred.
