Katherine Tegen Books, the publisher of DIVERGENT, is looking for a Senior Editor who has a passion for children's books and an appetite to acquire commercial and literary fiction. We are looking for a bright and capable individual who is looking for an amazing editorial opportunity! Responsibilities- Reports to Katherine Tegen, Publisher, and Jill Davis, Executive Editor.- Acquires and edits manuscripts for publication; handles select assigned authors and titles.- Shepherds manuscripts through production process.- Works directly with authors, agents, and all in-house departments.- Partners with design department to develop marketable packages.- Writes fact sheet, jacket and catalog copy; reviews marketing material.- Conducts and analyzes sales research, with a deep understanding of P&Ls.- Presents titles at various meetings (editorial, acquisitions, launch).- Maintains a growing network of industry contacts.- Negotiates contracts with agents.- Supervises Assistant Editor along with Executive Editor.- Meets number of books/dollar goals – 10-12 titles per year. Knowledge/Experience/Skills:- Minimum of five years editorial work experience or equivalent within publishing industry- Proven ability to set priorities under pressure and multi-task effectively- Strong understanding and awareness of general marketplace and children’s book industry- Acquisition and publication of multiple profitable and/or critically viable projects- Established relationships with relevant agents and industry colleagues- Has experience managing a high-profile house author and/or program- College degree or equivalent work experienceTo apply, please submit your cover letter and resume through our website: http://harpercollinscareers.com.
