We are currently seeking an Events Manager for our Government Executive Media Group (GEMG) division. Government Executive Media Group is the premier publisher in the federal government market. Its publications include Government Executive magazine, GovExec.com and Nextgov.com, all of which hold market leading positions and have fast-growing, tech-savvy audiences. In addition, GEMG has a dedicated events team which produces over 80 events each year. Our events cover a wide variety of pressing federal topics, and offer federal managers access to the latest information on government best practices and industry solutions, both in person and online.

The Events Manager will manage a portfolio of live and online events, including client-led custom events and editorial-led events. The position will be responsible for managing all aspects of each event, including all logistics, client management, vendor management, and audience development, ultimately exceeding client expectations while also providing a superior event product to our readers.

GEMG seeks a highly motivated, entrepreneurial, and service-minded professional to join our team and contribute to the growth, development, and execution of a wide range of editorial and custom events and programs. Our ideal candidate will have 3-5 years previous event management experience, preferably in a high-velocity, bottom-line focused industry. This position reports to GEMG’s Associate Director of Event Operations.



Responsibilities Include:

Project Management & Client Service:

  • Plan and manage online and live events from start to finish; including logistics management, client management, content development, speaker management, audience development, live event management and post-event reporting
  • Provide exceptional project management through creating, tracking and communicating organized and detailed project plans and leading frequent internal project team meetings
  • Provide exceptional client service through frequent client communications and by anticipating client needs and proactively addressing them; includes leading frequent project meetings with clients
  • Provide clients with post-event reporting and manage lead follow-up campaigns

    Audience Development:

  • Collaborate with events and marketing teams to determine event attendee marketing strategy and develop and deploy marketing communications to build audiences that meet target specifications

    Additional Responsibilities:

  • Provide on-site support at live events and conferences
  • Provide additional events-related support as-needed


    Qualifications of the Ideal Candidate:

  • Ability to work independently and pro-actively on a variety of events and projects
  • Ability to manage complex and fast-changing program elements and prioritize effectively in response
  • Outstanding organizational skills, excellent judgment and meticulous attention to detail
  • Ability to work closely and cooperatively (with grace under pressure) with a variety of external and internal constituencies
  • Persuasive communication skills and self-possession in presentation
  • Entrepreneurial spirit, track record of initiative, high-quality service standard and ownership of work
  • Interest in and/or willingness to quickly learn about topics affecting the federal government and contracting communities
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience event management
  • Experience managing online events, such as webinars, preferred
  • Experience developing event content and messaging preferred
  • Experience in media/publishing a plus
