The CSU Chancellor's Office, located on the waterfront adjacent to the Aquarium of the Pacific in downtown Long Beach, is the headquarters for the nation's largest and most diverse system of higher education.  The CSU Chancellor's Office offers a premium benefit package that includes outstanding vacation, health, and dental plans; a fee waiver education program; membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (PERS); and 14 paid holidays a year.

Position Information
The California State University, Office of the Chancellor, is seeking a Web Designer to collaborate with the Assistant Web Manager, Art Director, editorial and web development teams to design and produce creative, functional and user-friendly web-based communications projects in support of the CSU's mission and priorities. The Web Designer is responsible for the visual design of websites, e-newsletters and digital assets to support the Chancellor's Office Communications Department and its clients. This position is also responsible for providing development support to the Web team, including programming and maintaining new and existing websites.

Responsibilities: Under the general direction of the Senior Web Manager, the Web Designer will:
-Coordinate with the Senior Web Manager, Assistant Web Manager and Art Director to execute design strategy for CSU internal and external web communications objectives;

-Produce layout, design and visual elements for web sites, e-newsletters, and other web-based projects and graphics using Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, and InDesign;

-Develop websites using HTML, Wordpress and Sharepoint, as needed;

-Assist web team on usability and design issues, such as navigation, search engine optimization and accessibility;

-Research and recommend web-based solutions for optimal user experience;

-Produce web-based graphics and photos to support web development team needs, including cropping, re-sizing and image research;

-Maintain a strong understanding of latest and newly emerging Web design trends and standards, technology and accessibility issues;

-Work collaboratively with customers and help them plan and produce high-quality, cost-effective communications after fully understanding their objectives and target audience(s);

Qualifications
This position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Design or comparable field or equivalent years of education and/or work experience preferred.

-3-5 years website design experience required;

-2+ years website development experience required;

-Demonstrated experience designing high-profile, highly-accessible websites;

-Ability to prototype websites using HTML;

-Advanced knowledge of building websites using Wordpress, Drupal or other open-source tools;

-Thorough production-level knowledge of digital imaging and illustration software, particularly Adobe Creative Suite (including Photoshop and Illustrator) required;

-Strong knowledge of HTML, HTML5, XHTML, CSS, PHP, Javascript, JQuery,

-Experience designing for Sharepoint 2010 or 2013 preferred;

-Knowledge and demonstrated experience with cross-browser and cross-platform issues required;

-Advanced knowledge of social media and video standards required;

-Attention to detail, customer-service orientation, and creativity in problem-solving required;

-Demonstrated practical understanding of producing accessible communications required;

-Demonstrated ability to work productively in a highly collaborative, diverse work environment required;

-Demonstrated design and coding ability as proven through portfolio review and testing;

-Excellent communication (oral and written), interpersonal, organizational, and presentation skills required;

-Adept at working collaboratively as part of a large or small team as well as independently and the ability to be highly responsive and adaptable to management;

-Strong time management skills and ability to focus on multiple projects with competing deadlines
