The Improper Bostonian, Boston’s premier lifestyle and entertainment magazine, is currently seeking a highly motivated Sales Manager to handle all sales functionality for the magazine in our Boston office. The Sales Manager will report directly to the publisher and be responsible for managing, mentoring and developing a sales team of 6 people, generating new sales leads, ideas and opportunities that net in sales growth and meeting a small annual individual sales quota. This person must be results driven and have a demonstrated track record of success in negotiating, developing and closing deals and successfully managing sales representatives.

Principal Responsibilities:
•Managing account executives to develop, grow and secure new business while managing current advertising partners for print, digital, social media and events
•Meeting an individual sales quota
•Delivering quarterly, monthly and weekly sales forecasts, call reports and records of meetings and other activities generating advertising revenues for the magazine
•Serving as an expert on magazine media and keeping abreast of business developments, competition and trends in Boston
•Demonstrating proficiency in social media and web sales
•Spotting advertising and market trends and acting on them first
•Staying up-to-date with news, research and any other information that directly affects the magazine
•Serving as a strong ambassador for the magazine, especially among clients, and attending various advertising-related meetings and events
Knowledge/Skills/Competencies Required:
•BS/BA degree and at least five years of management, web sales and social media experience
•Knowledge of all aspects of advertising, including creative, production and media
•Ability to handle multiple opportunities at once, make sales calls, create advertising materials, analyze data, set and meet goals, manage time, negotiate and problem solve
•High energy, professional polish and comfort with a high-visibility leadership role
•Proven ability to meet and exceed sales quotas and succeed in a results-oriented, highly accountable sales environment
•Entrepreneurial and enthusiastic approach to business, preferably with pre-existing relationships with media buying agencies and clients
•Superior communication skills: verbal, written, managerial and interpersonal
•Proven success in initiating and maintaining sales relationships and building a solid client base
•Strong understanding of the advertising and marketing sectors and connections within the advertising industry in some of the following key categories: fashion, retail, beauty, luxury, travel, jewelry/accessories, entertainment, arts, consumer electronics, wine and spirits and real estate
•Experience in print media preferred but not a requirement for the right candidate
