OVERVIEW
In accordance with a strategic editorial plan, this position is responsible for the management and development of new textbooks and textbook revisions signed by the acquisition editors.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES
•Under the supervision of the Editorial Development Manager and in consultation with the appropriate acquisitions editors, manage the development of selected projects under contract, ensuring schedules are met and all projects reflect the highest quality and meet market needs. This includes management of the schedule, the peer review process, manuscript revisions, permissions, the art program, and any associated ancillaries.
•Manage the internal and external reviewing of draft manuscripts for selected projects. The internal review includes working with production, the art department, and the permissions editor to ensure that all aspects of manuscript preparation are complete and acceptable. The external review includes commissioning peer reviews, summarizing key points for the author, and ensuring that the appropriate amendments are made.
•In consultation with the Editorial Development Manager and acquisitions editors, initiate and manage revised editions of selected titles. This includes negotiating the extent, nature, and schedule of the revision with the author, as well as management of the schedule, review process, and development needs once the revision has been agreed. Where appropriate, it will also include negotiation of a revised contract under the guidance of the appropriate acquisitions editor.
•In coordination with the appropriate editorial assistant, be responsible for the timely, accurate, and complete transmittal to production of titles that the associate editor has managed and developed, including assisting the acquisitions editor in the preparation of necessary product and competitor information for the Marketing and Sales departments.
•Under the direction of the Editorial Development Manager and in coordination with the appropriate digital editor, implement best practices in developing texts and ancillaries and working with other departments and outside companies to create processes and, if needed, guides to fulfill these practices as efficiently as possible.
•Spend a minimum of 4 days on campus each year, scouting for authors, reviewers and new ideas for assigned titles and ancillaries. During these campus visits it is also necessary to actively promote SAGE titles and work closely to coordinate such activities with the sales and marketing staffs.
•Represent SAGE Publications externally at regional and national organization conferences.
•Under the supervision of the Editorial Development Manager and in consultation with the appropriate acquisitions editor, manage controllable expenses such as reviewer, permissions, and art budgets, as well as T&E and other operational costs.

QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION
•Minimum of Bachelor’s degree
•At least 2 years of book publishing experience, preferably in the textbook area with a college publisher
