Editor/Project Manager (lllus. Bks/Digital Media)
The ideal candidate is someone who likes to make things and has a unique creative perspective and boundless curiosity. He or she has extensive experience hiring, directing, and editing writers in a variety of nonfiction subject matter, including business, ecology, design, lifestyle, and technology. The editor can conceptualize and shape book-length narratives and can deliver polished content on deadline. Ideally, the candidate has experience as a tech or culture writer/editor at a top online publication or print magazine and will bring an active network of freelance writers to the company. This person has a strong visual sensibility and is excited by the chance to tell stories across multiple media. He or she would be interested in commissioning and directing scripts for documentary videos and animation shorts for Fortune 100 companies; is capable of assembling creative teams to build mobile apps and websites for NGOs or famous individuals; and would welcome the challenge of creating ancillary content for a video game company. The editor has opinions about the future of content distribution, iBeacon, Punchdrunk, fracking, Chris Milk, Harvard Business Review, n+1, mobile news apps, and TED. Finally, he or she values good salesmanship and can deliver extraordinary client satisfaction.Ideal candidates will perform some or all of the following:•Writing proposals, conceptualizing and selling projects for new and existing clients, including websites, mobile applications, videos, and print publications;•Hiring and directing freelance teams to perform a variety of creative services;•Managing client relationships;•Tracking project budgets and deliverables;•Conducting regular status meetings with project teams and maintaining project schedules; and•Maintaining knowledge of digital trends and industry developmentsAdditionally, candidates for the position must have:•College degree, plus minimum 5 years of practical experience as an associate editor or editor;•Computer literacy (Mac) and familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite;•Some knowledge of interactive design processes and terminology, ebook and multimedia content platforms, and UX/UI design;•Strong editorial and communication skills; •Proven ability to lead creative teams working under pressure;•Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; and•Ability to work with a broad range of world-class clientsCOMPENSATION: Competitive compensation, commensurate with experience.Please include a cover letter with your resume (strong communication skills are an essential component of this job).
