The Senior Assignment Editor is expected to manage the team involved in newsgathering efforts during a variety of weather events, in a fiscally-responsible manner. During the evening and at night, this role acts as the primary management liaison between the Newsdesk and live programming including the morning show team, local severe and the evening live programs. This role will act as a liaison between The Weather Channel and all NBC News divisions. At all times, safety must be considered as an important factor in all newsgathering opportunities.

Duties and Responsibilities
· Manage The Weather Channel's team involved in newsgathering efforts including interaction with and oversight of meteorologists and journalists reporting in the field. This includes collaborating with producers and meteorologists to create interesting and compelling stories. This person also has a duty to inform the Director of News and Weather Coverage and other members of the Live Programming Management team during anticipated and on-going significant weather events.

· Establish, maintain and manage relationships with partners, internal and external, including all NBC News divisions.

· Gather accurate information from multiple agencies and communicate available material to editorial staff.

· Monitor live news feeds, social media and wire services and websites.

· Generate and develop news sources for the various news platforms.

· Manage user-generated content.

· Prior management experience in a similar newsgathering environment preferred.

· Bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism or related discipline.

Eight years experience (with a minimum of 5 years as an Assignment Editor) at a medium/large market television station.

· Excellent story development, logistics and follow-up skills.

· Adept at gathering and researching story ideas, developing sources, gathering accurate information from multiple agencies, generating great weather-related story ideas, and assigning field crews and talent.

· Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

· Ability to process and analyze a large volume of information, determine what is most important and newsworthy and then communicate the essential details.

· Ability to multi-task under pressure, meet deadlines, process information, and make decisions quickly.

· Proficiency utilizing newsroom computer system.
