•Assist Associate Director in day-to-day management of media outreach, including placement/pitching, reporter cultivation, and development of alerts, news releases, and related content, coordinating efforts with digital media team.
•Respond to media inquiries and work with staff to schedule interviews.
•Assist in staff preparation for media interviews.
•Maintain and update media contacts database and track media interactions and interest.
•Maintain and update contacts with communications staffs of current and future PCORI partners, including funded researchers and stakeholder organizations.
•Monitor coverage of PCORI by traditional and new media outlets in both trade and consumer media arenas.
•Work with Associate Director to maintain and update media relations collateral, traditional and digital, with an eye to the look, feel, functionality, and quality of the material.
•Work with Associate Director to develop specialized content for placement in external media channels and to develop and manage internal communications tools and vehicles, including staff and Board updates and coverage alerts.
•Represent PCORI at meeting exhibit booths, assist with communications activities at workshops and other events, and assist in managing media briefings as directed.
•Work with Associate Director to implement media relations strategy and ensure adherence to performance metrics.


•Bachelor’s degree required; specialization in communications, journalism or a related field strongly preferred.
•Five-to-seven years of experience in communications/media relations field required, specialization in health care or health policy field strongly preferred.
•Three-to-five years of experience with online media relations, outreach, database and support tools required.
•Three-to-five years of experience with use of social media tools in media relations strongly preferred.
•Excellent analytical, organizational, and project management skills and ability to work both independently and collaboratively required.
•Proven ability to handle multiple tasks, perform well under pressure, prioritize tasks and meet deadlines and objectives.
•Clear and effective oral and written and verbal communications skills required, including line-editing experience, ability to shape and improve content conceptually for target audiences and experience in repackaging material for multiple uses.
•Familiarity with standard style manuals (eg, AP, Chicago, AMA) strongly preferred.
•Demonstrated understanding of health research and healthcare delivery issues as well as a strong interest in health issues generally are preferred.
