Your tasks
The Business Development Manager drives sales of particular product lines to the pharmaceutical, medical, and corporate industries. Products include books and book content, including custom projects. This person will work closely and collaboratively with BDMs to make sure that products are sold into specific named accounts as well the entire universe of potential customers. In addition, this person will provide commercial and strategic input regarding clients and industry demand as well as building strong relationships with the pharmaceutical and corporate communities. Specific responsibilities include:

_Account Management

oTarget sales opportunities for assigned product line, within assigned therapy areas, working towards achievement of specific goals
oMake and field all inquiries to/from potential customers of your product, within your therapeutic area
oWork with BDMs to identify key accounts to target for book content and provide demos, comp copies, or samples for client review
oDesign and recommend new sales initiatives to specific clients and see that they are followed through upon
oIdentify, develop, and manage new corporate sales accounts via attendance at major medical conferences, prospecting phone calls, and names gathered through own research initiatives
oInteract and manage existing accounts to increase sales of products
oBuild relationships with pharmaceutical/corporate contacts through client meetings. Identify marketing needs and provide solutions with assigned products
oReview appropriate page proofs of upcoming books/journals to identify leads for potential sales and follow-up with mailings, e-mails, faxes, etc.
oLead all pitch opportunities for assigned products
i.Internally _ lead the preparation of all pitches
ii.Externally _ be the point of contact for pitches and take overall responsibility
oDevelop proposals for your assigned products to stand alone, or be included into a full capabilities presentation
oContribute to the profitability of Springer Healthcare Communications by working with Account Team to ensure all business closed is financial viable and Springer Healthcare_s profit margins are maintained
oLiaise with other SHC colleagues to promote SHC products and services, participating in joint pitches where required
oOther duties as required by manager

_Business planning

oWork with management team to develop strategic plan for assigned products
oDevelop a current product and pipeline analysis for assigned products
oBe the expert on specific industry needs for your products, i.e.: Textbook Library Programs, Reprints Shop, or any other initiatives that feature your products.
oCreate own marketing material and recommend/develop new products/services to increase sales as well as to meet changing needs of the medical industry.
oKeep abreast of developments and attitudes in the worldwide healthcare environment at industry, government and health service level. Develop sources of information, particularly through contacts with relevant people
oCommunicate effectively with Springer colleagues

Our requirements
_BA/BS degree
_Minimum 1-3 years previous sales or account experience, preferably to the pharmaceutical industry, within an agency or publishing environment
_An understanding of the pharmaceutical industry and the drug development process
_Knowledge of the publishing industry
_Experience in updating databases
_Proficiency with Word, PowerPoint and other Microsoft packages
_Demonstrate high levels of motivation
_Excellent writing, editing, and organizational skills
_Ability to work in a team environment
_Excellent spoken and written communication skills
_Ability to work to deadline
_Excellent prospecting skills
