The Business Development team for Lonely Planet focuses on four primary objectives when representing our brand in the B2B market. Those are:

To bring profit to Lonely Planet
-Increase Lonely Planet’s brand awareness around the globe through strategic partnerships.
-Enhance Lonely Planet’s reach to new travelers by leveraging key B2B relationships to bring more travelers into Lonely Planet’s eco-system.
-Identify and create new product and technological opportunities through partner alignment and as a result of market demand.
-An opportunity exists for an experienced Inventory Optimization & Pricing Manager to join our new team. You will be responsible for supporting Sales Managers in managing pricing and optimising inventory with a clear goal in mind: continuously help maximize advertising revenue across Lonely Planet’s digital platforms.

Responsibilities include:

-Work with Global Director of Advertising Operations to develop and implement pricing strategies to maximize profit across global advertising assets.
-Develop and manage the pricing and yield functions within the global organization.
-Develop a monetization plan that aligns with our financial targets and provides transparency into various sales opportunities.
-Develop business intelligence tools to evaluate pricing and manage inventory across countries/regions. You will oversee global advertising inventory and implement a management system to organize & optimize.
-Support various initiatives to continuously improve yield, revenue and inventory management processes (E.g. Improve forecast accuracy, standardize and automate ad hoc reporting).
-Establish, and handle daily maintenance of the ad sales rate card & inventory management tool.
-Analysis of audience and sales trends that impact the demand and availability of inventory and develop strategies to increase revenue potential around fluctuations.
-Provide proactive direction to the advertising sales team to maximize revenue and provide transparency into sales opportunities on a real time basis.
-Ensure planners are always up to date on current rate card policies and inventory status.
-Effectively communicate & collaborate with cross functional teams within Business Development – including Production, Finance, Ad Operations, Planners and Sales on optimization, reporting, pricing/yield policies and ad hoc initiatives.
-Lead monthly communication with a global team to inform demand and yield trends, insights and opportunities.
-Develop quarterly business reviews, presentation materials and recommendations for quarterly/annual planning and executive management discussions.
-Adhere to and demonstrate belief in Lonely Planet’s editorial independence & integrity and advertising guidelines

Strong commercial skills and experience with advertising pricing & inventory management in a highly regarded media organization.
-Experience in developing and managing business intelligence tools that drive advertising revenue.
-A strategic and analytical mindset.
-Solid problem solving skills with the ability to balance conflicting priorities.
-Exceptional interpersonal and negotiation skills.
-Experience working with tools such as DFP, Google Analytics, Nielsen Net Ratings.
-Existing relationships with key advertising agencies & personnel.
-Sound knowledge of the latest trends in the digital advertising industry and associated products, processes & selling techniques.
-Proven achiever with high quality standards, attention to detail and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
-Lonely Planet is a global company and our employees are required to work off hours from time to time. We are looking for someone who will be flexible and can is comfortable with either early morning or late evening calls when necessary.
-1-2 years of pricing and inventory management required
