The Asia Foundation’s Global Communications unit is seeking a Communications Associate to work in its San Francisco, CA office. Reporting to the Assistant Director, the Communications Associate must be a dynamic self-starter who loves to write and work with media influencers, is passionate about communications and international affairs, and will thrive in a multicultural setting engaging with colleagues across Asia. In support of the Global Communications unit’s efforts in raising Foundation visibility, this person will play a critical role in media relations and social media engagement, as well as researching and producing content for a range of platforms, including news releases, social media, and the website. Experience or strong interest in international development, international affairs or Asia is highly preferred. Job responsibilities generally cover the following areas: outreach and media relations efforts (60% of time); social media and blog (25%); and administrative projects (15%).REQUIREMENTS:Education: Bachelor’s Degree required with at least three years of public relations, media relations, public policy, communications, or marketing experience•Outstanding writing skills, specifically with news release writing/editing and developing social media content. Ability to condense academic and technical content for broad audiences is highly desirable. •Strong media research and analysis skills, including experience in monitoring and measuring news coverage and generating coverage reports. Must be familiar with print and online media trends •Practical experience in a variety of social media platforms and engaging online communities •Excellent judgment and attention to detail with an intuitive and motivated approach to managing priorities •Knowledge of and interest in Asia and international development is highly preferred•Desire to contribute ideas around creative communications and process improvements •Savvy in MS Outlook and latest communications tools and software RESPONSIBILITIES:Outreach and Media Relations (60%):?Manage media monitoring and reporting for the Foundation using a wide variety of tracking tools including Meltwater. Compile, analyze, and summarize Foundation media coverage for internal daily, weekly, and quarterly reports ?Develop and maintain external news postings and media highlights for the Foundation’s website?Edit and write Foundation news releases and work with staff on release edits and approvals ?Engage with international and U.S. media contacts. This includes following print and online news trends, researching and tracking relevant reporters, maintaining targeted media lists, preparing media materials, and assisting with outreach for the Foundation’s initiatives and events?Research speaking opportunities for the Foundation and its experts ?Support preparations for media and spokesperson training ?Contribute ideas on media relations, digital content, and visibility opportunities during team brainstorm and strategy development Social Media and Blog (25%): ?Support in monitoring, drafting, and creating content for the Foundation’s social media channels and campaigns?Develop and manage tweet drafts for news releases and media coverage ?Support engagement and outreach with reporters, media outlets, and audience targets through Twitter ?Support production of weekly blog by assisting with posting and distributing external blog newsletter (Wordpress and MyEmma)Administrative (15%):?Serve as point person for PR/media vendor relations and provide updates about publicity- and communications-related tools, products, and services, including newswire distributions?Conduct general administrative duties TO APPLY:To apply, please place your cover letter and resume in one document and submit it as an attachment at http://www.asiafoundation.org/about/employment/ and select “Regular Employment.” We will only consider those who complete the on-line application questionnaire and provide a cover letter and resume.
