Senior Interaction Designer
The Interactive Designer is a key member of the Harvard Business Review (HBR) Design Department and the HBR Product Development team that includes visual and information designers, project and product managers, editors, and technical developers. The Design team work across all of HBR to ensure improved design quality and better integration of design within the organization. The Product Development team creates products that help managers put HBRs ideas to work. Examples include: web-based interactive tools to size markets, set profitable prices, and maximize customer lifetime value; downloadable tools and templates that accompany the HBR Guide to Building Your Business Case; PowerPoint presentations that translate HBR books into actionable strategy discussions. This position reports to the Creative Director who directs/lends guidance in relation to design outcomes and the HBR brand. Responsibilities: Manage the product design process, helping to drive decisions, track issues, and estimate resource needs and schedules Become immersed in HBR content on which products are based Determine products mandate, feature set, and business requirements Contribute to the definition, scope and phasing of project timelines Develop user personas, scenarios of use, interaction models Design and specify user interfaces and information architecture using participatory and iterative design techniques Create wireframes and functional prototypes Develop creative concepts and directions from creative briefs Create functional specs, documenting feature behavior in detail Document visual branding in a style guide Participate in user testing or fieldwork Ensure exceptional design execution Collaborate with third parties to ensure that solutions survive the development process Collaborate with marketing team Effectively communicate conceptual ideas and detailed design rationale both verbally and visually to stakeholders Requirements/Qualifications: At least 3+ years of interaction design experience Ability to understand customer needs, motivations and behaviors and translate them into actionable deliverables Detail-oriented and highly developed organizational skills including the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines Must be a self-starter who will bring original ideas and fresh approaches to each project Strong knowledge of user interface design processes and methodology, particularly as applied to Web-based applications An understanding of web-typography. Strong self-management skills as well as ability to work as a contributing member of a multi-discipline team Ability to collaborate with other designers and developers to envision and iterate concepts Advanced proficiency with design and prototyping tools such as InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Visi0 BS/BA in Design, HCI or related degree preferred.Please visit our 'Careers' page at http://hbr.org/corporate/careers to apply!
