The News Operations Manager is responsible for insuring the superior quality of KIRO-TV News video and audio presentation through: effective management of its technical operations and equipment; maintenance of high photojournalistic and newsvideo editing standards; and the efficient planning and management of TV News operating and capital budgets. Responsibilities include:

1. To coordinate photojournalist, newsvideo editing, remote broadcast, and news engineering activities and productivity.
2. To be active and aggressive in maintaining high-quality product and conduct from work group members.
3. To initiate and approve requests as appropriate for the purchase, replacement, or repair of equipment and services.
4. To oversee staffing and supervisory duties, including hiring, discipline, scheduling, and evaluation of operations staff and work group members in accordance with KIRO policies.
5. To plan and manage the TV News operating and capital budgets.
6. To help to determine the future direction of KIRO TV News operations through regular and clear communications with News Director, other Department Heads, Senior staff leaders, and employees.
7. To provide logistical planning and technical coordination for TV News programming, projects, and special events.
8. To oversee the operation and regular maintenance of TV News equipment, including: camcorders; video players, recorders and editing systems; audio systems and tape recorders; communications equipment, including two-way radios, cellular telephones, and scanners; newsvideo transmission equipment, including satellite & microwave vehicles and gear; helicopter; news vehicles and other transportation equipment.
9. To plan, supervise, and track operational expenditures.
10. To plan and supervise purchases and installation of new and/or replacement equipment per manufacturer's specifications.
11. To coordinate and define activities of the photojournalist, newsvideo editing, remote broadcast, and maintenance engineering staffs.
12. To be totally conversant with KIRO's disaster recovery planning and the procedures in the KIRO Crisis
13. Manual and to review the plans and policies on a regular basis for adequacy in relation to current operations and systems.
14. To be conversant with journalistic law and follow professional ethics.
15. To be conversant with general FCC policies and rules applying to equipment operated by TV News.
16. To work additional hours per day or week as necessary.
17. To work in the field through all types of weather conditions, varying work schedules (including weekends, nights and holidays), and to travel as part of assigned duties
18. To keep physically fit, able to lift and carry necessary equipment (up to 60 pounds), and the agility to perform work assignments.
19. To be fully conversant with the newsroom computer system and KIRO voice and data systems.
20. To maintain valid Washington state driver’s license or other personal licenses required to perform duties.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree
MS Office, i-News, and AVID strongly preferred
