Responsibilities include:
o Program Development
o Establish a plan for signing new projects and revisions based on:
-trends in assigned disciplines
-strengths and weaknesses of Thieme list
-strengths and weaknesses of competitors’ lists
o Forecast front list titles as part of annual budgeting process
o Editorial Acquisitions: Sign about 20 new projects per year by researching and soliciting proposals in assigned disciplines involving:
o Staying abreast of new developments in the field and working proactively towards keeping Thieme's list comprehensive and up-to-date
o Building and maintaining a network of accomplished clinicians/authors
o Development and maintenance of a pool of proposal reviewers
o Preparation of proposals for discussion and approval by Thieme's Editorial Board
o Negotiation of agreements with authors and editors
o Management of assigned electronic products/specialty based online platforms
o Build and manage editorial boards for assigned products
o Contribute ideas and support implementation of new functionalities from an editorial perspective
o Assure a constant flow of content

The Acquisitions Editor collaborates with:
o marketing and sales departments to develop marketing plans, promotional messages and sales meetings
o the editorial services department to ensure accurate delivery of final manuscript and ensure on-time publication of high-quality products in print and digital form
o editorial colleagues worldwide (Germany, India, Brazil) to coordinate development of products to optimize product potential
o the journals department to build on common networks and to optimize mutual support of periodical and non-periodical publications.

Required Background:
o college degree
o experience as an acquisitions editor or related editorial/publishing experience desirable - ideally in the medical field
o excellent interpersonal and communication skills
o strong customer orientation
o ability to travel 10%-20% of time.
