Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
•Assist in generating a distinct “voice” for Fig Tree Books with consumers, vendors, partners, agents and authors;
•Attract new book customers and create repeat book business;
•Attract advertisers and create repeat advertising business;
•Mine existing channels with creative programs;
•Develop new channels for book promotion;
•Provide messaging that differentiates our business and produces publicity for the Company as well as individual books;
•Ensure that social media marketing is integrated with non-digital marketing into a seamless program;
•Work with the Publisher, Editor-in-Chief, Head of Operations, Agencies and other consultants to meet sales targets.

Specific activities include but are not limited to the following:
•Assist in the development of and then implement marketing plans with distinctive features for the Company;
•Assist in the development of and then implement marketing plans with distinctive features for each book;
•Coordinate with the Editor-in-Chief and the public relations agency on outreach related to book reviews and story placements for both books and the Company;
•Evaluate effectiveness of marketing campaigns by establishing key metrics for book marketing programs from both social media and traditional marketing points of view;
•Coordinate marketing activities related to distribution and production, including book designs.


Requirements
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required:
•2 to 3+ years of increasing marketing responsibility in the publishing industry;
•Deep knowledge of all of the promotional activities relevant to fiction book publishing;
•Deep knowledge of the use of web and social media for book promotion;
•An understanding of market research and analytics/metrics;
•Project management experience;
•Impeccable writing skills;
•Bachelor’s degree in English, Comparative Literature or Marketing.

The Ideal candidate needs to be able to:
•Represent the Company at certain corporate and book events;
•Work collaboratively and efficiently, especially with authors, agents, vendors and partners;
•Exercise sound judgment while being highly responsive and active;
•Be self-motivated --- both strategic as well as detail-oriented and organized;
•Be current with regard to developments in digital media, the social web, eCommerce, and content marketing;
•Be perpetually willing to learn.

Big plusses:
•A solid understanding of the literary landscape, a passion for books, and an interest in publishing as a business;
•MBA or MFA or Certificate in publishing.

Applicants should be prepared to provide examples of successful marketing programs on which they have worked. Writing samples are also welcomed.


The position requires someone to live in the metro New York City area.
