Mr. Bill Howard
Full Time
Cornell Alumni Magazine is hiring an Editor/Publisher (one job) with strong magazine and digital experience. The Editor will have superior skills as an editor, proofreader, and writer. He or she will have a demonstrated track record enhancing print quality, expanding online, and making strategic use of social media; building revenue-generating custom publishing ventures; increasing print circulation; and using ongoing reader surveys to measure preferences and engagement. The successful candidate will work with the CAM Committee to examine editorial focus and to drive editorial enhancements and a magazine redesign. The Editor/Publisher will maintain relationships among the magazine, the independent Cornell Alumni Association that owns the magazine, the CAM Committee, the University administration, Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City (CAM custom publishes its magazine), and influencers in the Cornell community.

The Publisher oversees magazine finances (~$1 million/year), negotiates vendor contracts, and reports on financial issues to the CAM Committee and the CAA Board. He or she stays abreast of advertising efforts and makes the case for the value of advertising in CAM to clients, but does not sell ads. The Editor/Publisher reports to a committee of a dozen publishing professionals and alumni. The Editor/Publisher and the committee chair report to the Cornell Alumni Association.

Our preference is for a Cornell alumna/alumnus or a person with a strong and current connection with Cornell. If you are not, the cover letter better be a masterpiece.
