The week-by-week role of the Designer will be to primarily design front-of-book lifestyle sections,, along with several other smaller sections; occasionally design features; commission illustrations; collaborate with the art director and photo editor; and, craft content and solutions with editors.

The Designer needs to have the ability to manage tight weekly deadlines in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a flawless attention to detail and continually producing smart ideas and concepts on how to visually tell stories. She/he must be able to take direction and constructive criticism as well as working with an eagerness to continue learning. Must possess strong typographic skills and a sophisticated design sense. An unwavering passion for and interest in all things NYC is crucial to being successful in this atmosphere; part of what makes this brand flourish is the people who not only love their city, but really know their city and want to share that passion with their readers. This position reports directly to the Art Director. The Designer will work within a 4-person Art Department, which meets regularly critiquing issues, collaborating on packages, discussing design trends and brainstorming future covers, feature visual concepts and photo shoots.

•3+ years editorial design experience at a consumer magazine (weekly magazine experience preferred)
•Bachelor’s degree in design-related field
•Strong foundations of editorial design; quickly adaptable to different aesthetics; fast, efficient, confident designer
•Proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator. Strong knowledge of either Final Cut Pro or Adobe After Effects. Knowledge of web/interactive design, K4.
•Comfortable shooting video and photography. Comfortable with image retouching.
•An independent thinker and self-sufficient, yet also eagerly collaborative and a creative brainstormer
•Expertise in typography and sophisticated design sensibility. Must have strong brand sense.
•A discerning eye for photography
•Must be a conceptual thinker with the ability to put on an editorial hat and craft something that elevates the content
•Maintain proper communication with art director to ensure expectations are understood, objectives are achieved & deadlines are met
•Must be highly organized with the ability to manage a heavy workload of multiple projects in a fast-paced environment with perfect execution from beginning to completion
•Great attitude, an eagerness to be a part of the team, and a willingness to keep learning
•Proven experience designing complicated packages.?
•Problem solving skills in a team environment
•Experience working cross-departmentally a plus.
•Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Strong time-management skills. Friendly, nice person, positive attitude.
