Springer Publishing, a professional and academic publishing company, is looking for a highly motivated Web Marketing Manager to play a key role in driving online success across our three websites (springerpub.com, demosmedical.com, demoshealth.com) and in building and enhancing our online advertising activities.

Reporting to the VP of Marketing and Sales, the Web Marketing Manager will continue to refine and develop the web marketing strategy. Leadership, collaboration, and communication skills are critical attributes of this role: managing the relationship with the web development agency and working closely with colleagues in Marketing, Editorial, Sales, Customer Service, and other departments to support all marketing, sales, and editorial acquisition initiatives. Prioritization and reprioritization of new web features, marketing initiatives, and advertising goals is key, as is the ability to manage budgets. This person will supervise the Online Marketing Assistant in content development/curation, project management, optimization, and paid ad management.

The three (responsive) websites are built on Magento and Wordpress platforms. The new demosmedical.com and demoshealth.com sites are already live, with the new springerpub.com site launching imminent. (Experience using Magento is preferred but not required.)


  1. Manage company websites (springerpub.com, demosmedical.com, and demoshealth.com); responsible for all web and mobile e-commerce and promotional activity, marketing content, and continuous enhancement of features and functionality.
  2. Manage one Online Marketing Assistant.
  3. Identify usability and functional improvements, prioritize as applicable, and manage outside web development partner to implement.
  4. Meet annual web sales and traffic goals.
  5. Live in Google Analytics: devise and monitor reports as needed, track goals and conversions, etc.
  6. Create, test, and optimize forms and landing pages for content marketing success (e.g., free ebooks) and book sampling (for textbook adoption marketing) purposes.
  7. Optimize traffic levels and usability via SEO and A/B testing tools.
  8. Plan, execute, and manage budget for all Google AdWords campaigns.
  9. Work closely with content marketing and social media marketing coordinators to develop high-quality and effective web content.
  10. Work closely with other Marketing staff responsible for email marketing, marketing automation, video, and events to ensure successful campaigns.
  11. Research and plan a longer-term project of implementing greater community/social functionality into the three websites.
  12. Identify new and effective online marketing opportunities and trends.

Experience required:

  1. 5+ years of online marketing/e-commerce experience.
  2. Experience at a professional, academic, and/or health care publisher preferred but not necessary; however, the willingness to immerse yourself in our publishing content is a must.
  3. Experience working with/managing internal or external web development team.
  4. Thorough understanding of e-commerce websites and their functionality, CMS platforms, SEO, PPC, eMarketing. Magento experience preferred.
  5. Strong writing and presentation skills required.
  6. Strong experience with Google Analytics and Google AdWords platforms to drive revenue and conversions (official Google training/certification strongly preferred).
  7. Experience with web A/B testing tool (e.g., Optimizely).
  8. Demonstrated ability to lead projects and develop web initiatives is required: strategizing, organizing, planning, and executing projects from conception through implementation.
  9. Hands-on knowledge in placing, tracking and maintaining paid campaigns (search, display and retargeting)
  10. In-depth knowledge of e-commerce and user experience best practices, experience managing both desktop and mobile-specific e-commerce.
  11. Experience with a marketing automation tool preferred.
  12. Ability to prioritize workload and manage time with a highly organized approach.
  13. Exceptional attention to detail.
