Description:
The Content Acquisitions Editor (AE) manages activities necessary to ensure achievement of strategic revenue and profit objectives for the designated team. The AE will develop sales forecasts using personal knowledge and research of the market and input from the global marketing and sales organization. The AE anticipates and responds to market trends, identifies publishing topics, finds authors, negotiates contracts, develops initial proposals, presents book proposals to internal staff, launches products to the editorial team, monitors the progress of each project including adjusting schedules and changing/adding authors as needed, assists in marketing and promoting products, and makes plans for product updates. The successful AE will support other departments and customers by providing and maintaining correct product information, responding to technical support requests, and making use of all relevant technical tools to stay abreast of customer feedback and needs. The AE will also participate in new product development, including the development of transformational and transitional digital products.

As one of three Senior/Content Acquisitions Editors you will be responsible for the growth of one of these three existing successful high-profile programs within our professional technology publishing group:
•IT Certification, IT Administration, Virtualization, and Architecture and Design Technologies.
•Data and Programming
•The ‘Dummies’ brand Technology Titles
You will acquire a mix of content including books for print and ebooks, video, elearning and be expected to manage the program to achieve financial growth targets through developing strategic plans for topics and modes of learning to match the needs of the community of professionals. You will work with a mix of existing and new authors and partners and will work to identity and build new partnerships. This program requires high energy and a high drive to bring in successful new high quality content that can stand the test of time and be valuable to the professional community for years after publication.

Requirements:
In-depth knowledge of the technology industry and publishing market, including trends, competitors, experts, and authors. Solid presentation and networking skills and interest in professional organizations, user groups, and activities. Demonstrated organizational and project management skills. Knowledge of Microsoft Office and ability to learn internal systems. Ability to communicate with all levels of staff and customers, both technical and non-technical. Demonstrated financial management and negotiation skills. College degree. Must be highly motivated and achievement oriented. Minimum of 3 years in acquisitions or related publishing area required. Familiarity with professional level technical topics preferred. Position requires 5-10 days per year of out-of-state travel to national technology conferences. Depending on experience level, this position may be an Acquisitions Editor or a Senior Acquisitions Editor.

• 5 years of content or talent acquisition in a professional technical community with proven success in multiple modes of content or learning. Experience e-learning, video training or other digital content products and services is beneficial.
• Ability to assess customer and market needs, create and execute a market-driven strategy
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and grow a network of authors, contributors, advisors, and partners
• Excellent analytical skills and judgment to identify opportunities and projects with high potential for success
• Results driven with financial management skills
• Strong leadership and team skills to build productive working relationships
• Strong understanding of contracts and the ability to successfully negotiate with authors, contributors, and partners
• Ability to influence without authority, colleagues in other functional areas (e.g. production, marketing, etc.)
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• High-energy self-starter with good time management skills and ability to prioritize for financial success
• Ability to travel 2-4 weeks annually
• Ability to work from our Hoboken, Indianapolis, or San Francisco offices
