Position Profile:

Production editor for the managing editorial department, adult trade division, responsible for supervising the production process of original titles from manuscript to final files.

Primary Responsibilities:

- Oversee production process and maintain press schedules for assigned original titles.
- Prepare copyedited manuscripts for typesetting, collate author and proofer corrections, review all passes for errors.
- Hire freelance copyeditors, proofreaders, indexers, and designers; review and approve their work.
- Coordinate with authors and guide them through all phases of the production process.
- Liaise between editorial, art, and production departments.
- Copyedit, fact check, and proofread jacket copy and mechanicals, photo inserts, and additional text material.
- Copyedit, fact check, and proofread in-house promotional and marketing material, including catalog and advertising copy.
- Submit materials for e-book conversion; review and approve e-books.

Qualifications/Skills Required:

- Bachelors degree in related field and 2-3 years managing editorial experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines.
- Professional manner in dealing with colleagues, authors, and freelancers.
- Strong familiarity with Chicago Manual of Style.
- Proven copyediting and proofreading skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat/Reader (knowledge of Biblio a plus).
