RequirementsThe Executive Editor for Developmental English and Literature is responsible for growing the two lists through strategic planning especially around digital growth, acquiring new projects, advising on title development, and creating marketing messages and materials. The Executive Editor brings to the team a nationwide perspective that includes trends in the discipline, emerging market needs, and the strengths and weaknesses of the books and products that we have on our list.


Major Responsibilities:

•Research, develop and sign new projects that meet list and market needs.
•Provide publication strategy and new content ideas for revisions.
•Facilitate the evolution of our business to digital publishing by providing a digital strategy that addresses the needs of students and instructors across channels.
•Seed new adoptions through events and outreach, work with reps and marketing managers to sell books and refine marketing messages. Travel to support sales efforts, as needed.
•Plan and attend academic conferences and national sales meetings throughout the year.
•Work with development editors and market development to organize needed focus groups or market research tasks.
•Through campus travel, meetings with authors and prospects, campus work with reps and reading widely, keep up-to-date documentation on major markets. Understand these markets in terms of classroom issues and competing books. Understand their trends and challenges.
•As needed, write, edit or revise brochures and catalog copy.

Experience Needed:
•Strong background in college publishing, either sales performance, editorial accomplishment, marketing success or some combination of these.
•Experience signing and launching successful first edition textbooks preferred
•Teaching experience desirable.

Educational Background Required:
•College degree required
