RequirementsPalgrave Macmillan is a leading global academic publisher. Our Scholarly Division is one of the largest, most established publishers of academic monographs and has focused international journals and reference lists all within the humanities, social sciences and business.
We are currently recruiting for a Global Head of Sociology in our Social Sciences team to commission in Sociology and to lead the management and strategic development of our Sociology, Criminology, Education and Anthropology lists. Based at our new London campus, you will work with Editors based in both the UK and US to implement a clear vision and strategy for the team, positioning Palgrave as the publisher of choice in these areas and driving revenue and list growth.

Reporting to the Global Head of Social Sciences, the ideal candidate will be commercially aware, target-minded, energetic, driven and passionate about scholarly publishing and will:
•Have extensive experience of publishing for the academic community, ideally in social science subject areas, with proven ability to deliver a profitable publishing programme
•Demonstrate strong managerial experience, with the ability to drive a team to meet targets and excel. Experience of managing teams globally would be a plus
•Demonstrate advanced strategic thinking and the ability to implement a clear vision for the development of the team, and in positioning Palgrave against competitors
•Have excellent commercial judgement and analytical ability

Key responsibilities
•Acquire new titles in Sociology and manage the list day to day, extending our reputation in this subject area and establishing Palgrave as the leading publisher of Sociology monographs globally.
•Campus visits and conference attendance as determined by the needs of the Sociology list
•Implement a clear vision and strategy for significant growth for the Sociology team, including a plan for how Palgrave will win against competitors and become the publisher of choice in these subject areas
•Work with the Head of Social Sciences to position Palgrave as the natural ally of the social sciences
•Work with the Publisher for Global Outreach to develop a joined up strategy for these subject areas in emerging markets.
•Ensure Palgrave remains ahead in terms of our digital initiatives, including Palgrave Pivot and Palgrave Open
•Manage a global team of Editors
