Powerhouse Environmental Health and Justice Non-Profit Seeks Communications Director to Help Slay Giants

The Center for Environmental Health (CEH) protects children and families from toxic chemicals in our air, water, consumer products, and bodies. We are headquartered in Oakland, CA, and have an office in New York City.

We are looking for a superstar Communications Director to join our close-knit team of deeply committed people’s health champions. The ideal candidate is a seasoned, smart, pro-active, compassionate detail-oriented, can-do professional who lives to develop and implement effective communications strategies. Applicants must have at least five years’ experience as senior media professionals with extensive experience running media campaigns across all channels. Our communications director will be our connector-in-chief and our master storyteller, harnessing the power of our 25-member staff to build our outward communications capacity.

You must be a master of digital communications with strong writing and story-telling skills. Additional qualifications include media strategy and the ability to run the organization’s day-to-day communications, stitching together all of CEH’s resources for maximum effect. You will supervise a Media Director and an Online Communications Coordinator and enjoy the support of our nationally renowned program staff. We are looking for a skilled and savvy leader who is smart, passionate, team-minded, willing to help implement strategy, and committed to bringing our organization to the next level.

The right candidate may come from the non-profit world, but we are also eager to connect with individuals who have been battle-tested in for-profits. Candidates not from an established non-profit organization, professional media organization, or well-known brand need not apply. This is a unique opportunity for a truly talented individual to make a difference in our org and in the world.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Overseeing all daily communications and supervising CEH’s existing Communications Team
- Creating an integrated communications plan (including a comprehensive digital strategy) to advance the organization’s objectives
- Growing the organization’s national brand, reach, and mandate
- Developing, refining, and amplifying all messaging
- Creating strategic partnerships with allied organizations, media outlets, and influential individuals, celebrities, and political leaders
- Serving as CEH spokesperson as needed
- Working with Program Directors and our Development Director to craft compelling stories based on CEH’s many accomplishments and pumping these stories out in new ways through new channels
- Creating new media opportunities and placements to build the profile of the Executive Director
- Reporting to the Executive Director and delivering regular reports to the CEH Board of Directors on all communications plans and activities
