Essential
Edits, writes, proofreads, and copyedits a variety of stories for publication in Ebony magazine and Ebony.com.
Cultivates sources and builds professional relationships with those in the media, PR and entertainment industries as well as in the communities we serve.
Keeps abreast of current events and trends in specific assigned areas; relays information about said areas to the rest of the Ebony staff.
Participates in plenary and brainstorming meetings regarding overall content direction and special projects.
Contributes to special projects and event coordination.
Formulates appropriate content recommendations.
Assigns stories to writers or editors, and freelancers.
Provides direction, guidance and instruction to any writers or editors providing content.
Takes story ideas, tips and concerns and responds quickly and efficiently.
Ensures that all materials meet established content standards.
Develops the technical skills of writing while maintaining originality.
Helps to develop work plans for various projects.


KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Requires a bachelor’s degree in Journalism or in a related area.
At least 5 years of experience as an editor.
Experience working with desktop publishing and online documentation software.
Knows proper content style, grammar, sentence form and structure.
Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Strong overall communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as a part of a team.
