Families USA, the national organization for health care consumers, is looking for a Press Secretary to join its Communications Team. The Press Secretary will work in collaboration with other Communications Department staff to help develop and execute Families USA’s outreach and earned media strategies. We are looking for a communications professional with significant experience writing a wide array of materials, including press releases and talking points, and developing and maintaining relationships with reporters.Responsibilities•Draft written materials including, press releases, statements, blog posts, op-ed’s, media advisories, social media content, pitch scripts and general talking points.•Establish and maintain relationships with national and state-based editorial boards and op-ed writers. •Distribute Families USA’s publications and other content to the media.•Prepare communications department materials for posting to the organization’s website. •Assist with logistics for earned media events. An ideal applicant would possess these qualifications: •Approximately 3-5 years experience in media relations, with an emphasis on generating earned media coverage.•A strong interest in promoting high-quality, affordable health coverage and care.•Strong organizational and oral and written communications skills.•Significant experience drafting press releases, talking points and other written materials.•Significant experience developing relationships with journalists. •Knowledge of the Affordable Care Act a plus.•Experienced journalists will also be given strong consideration.To apply, send a cover letter and resume by email to firstname.lastname@example.org and include “Press Secretary” in the subject line.
