Under the new leadership of renowned architect Wiel Arets, IIT Architecture seeks a highly motivated and experienced individual to serve as Senior Designer in the IIT College of Architecture (CoA) publishing office This position's primary role is to design and produce graphic materials, print, web, and digital publishing for the CoA, manage office workflow, and maintain the highest design standards consistent with the CoA identity. Work alongside the Publishing Director and in cooperation with the Producer. Responsible for design and production of individual print, web, and interactive projects which may include books, brochures, posters, newsletters, prospectus and other related materials for print, web, social media, and video. Work on projects of a similar scope for the Mies Crown Hall Americas Prize (MCHAP) office, with whom the CoA Publishing office will work closely. Liaise directly with contributors, writers, faculty, visiting architects, administration staff, AV staff, etc. Supervise, and collaborate with, the Producer on the above projects and on scheduling, developing budgets, procurement in addition to planning, management and delivery of projects. Work independently with minimal supervision in a work environment of multiple and conflicting priorities. The ideal candidate will be a person who is detail-oriented, is dedicated to producing high-quality work, can maintain both technical and creative projects, possesses an intuitive sense of simple, clear design with immaculate typography skills, and is able to work under tight deadlines. S/he will enjoy handling multiple responsibilities, typically requiring quick turnaround; using computer software, formatting and combining text, numerical data, photographs, charts, and other visual graphic elements to define a publication's purpose and audience. Strong knowledge and experience using Adobe Creative Suite, Keynote, Microsoft Office, Google Docs, web editing interfaces (eg. content management systems, email campaign systems, eg. Campaign Monitor, etc.) are requisites for the position. Knowledge of publishing processes is also necessary. The candidate should be familiar with the field of Architecture and Higher Education. Knowledge of and experience with web design and video production is a plus. Communications: This position will communicate via written, verbal and electronic with internal (faculty, staff & students) as well as external contacts of the College. Customer Service: The position will help maintain COA's formatting standards, and serve as the point person in implementing them, in conjunction with the Editor. In addition, this individual will liaise with printers, COA's administration and IIT community. Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree is required and 5+ years of relevant experience in design/publishing/web/video production and editorial standards. Copy writing/editing skills a plus. Solid understanding of typographic and graphic design principles.
