Scout (formerly North American Media Group) seeks a managing editor, with five years minimum of professional editing/writing/digital experience, for the National Home Gardening Club and its quarterly consumer publication, Gardening How-To. The club has a membership of 400,000 passionate gardeners across the U.S. This is the chance for a skilled editor to daily live his or her passion for all things gardening in a digital-forward and print environment!In addition to a deep interest in gardening, the ideal candidate will have:*a 4-year college degree in journalism, communications or a related field*strong content creation skills for digital and print consumer content*social media skills*a high competency in editing and copyediting skills*project management skills*HTML skills a plusThe managing editor is responsible for managing the digital editorial content on the club’s website (including loading articles, sizing photos, writing e-newsletters), assigning stories to freelancers, initiating new content ideas for various media channels, managing content for the magazine, writing short articles, content editing, copy editing, fact checking, assisting with gathering and selection of art and photos, and other duties as assigned. Some travel required. The ideal candidate is well-versed in creating and managing digital content and print content, extremely detail-oriented, has experience leading and managing workload independently, works well in a team and is able to balance multiple tasks in a deadline-driven environment. Proficiency in a variety of digital media tools is required, from word processing to photo editing and social media.Scout is a rapidly growing digital media organization.
