About the Role: Director, Business Development
In this highly diversified role, you’ll report to the Head of Business Development and use your well-honed business acumen to identify strategic opportunities to drive product innovation, revenue growth, and the internationalization of HPMG's properties.

Leveraging your broad knowledge of the media industry, you will identify key media and technology opportunities and expeditiously structure, negotiate, close, manage, and optimize partnership deals.

With an MBA or JD degree, and experience as a business development deal-maker in the digital media industry, you will be well prepared for this role. But it is your expert-level knowledge of emerging technologies and traditional media business models as well as your entrepreneurial and creative spirit that will guarantee your success. As an excellent communicator possessing a facility for engaging and persuading top executives, you are a natural fit for our growing organization at an inflection point for the company.

Requirements:
JD or MBA from top tier educational institution
5 years of business development from technology or digital media company
Experience as deal maker in a business development or business affairs role, negotiating with leading media and technology companies.
Experience in traditional media (books, magazines, newspapers, TV, film, sports, music) or digital media (online publishing, online video, social networks, search) with complex rights
High volume of past deals
Experience creating legal templates as well as drafting custom complex paper from scratch

Ability to work independently and autonomously, yet knowing when to collaborate with and seek input from internal stakeholders

A plus but not required:
Existing rolodex of contacts
Appreciation for the structure and history of the global media industry
Personal passion for following developments in applicable regulation and litigation (e.g. 1992 Cable Act, Bobbs-Merrill 1908).
Ability to navigate “church/state” environment of a news organization
Avid follower of new apps, tool, websites
Combination of strategic vision and the financial, management consulting, and technological skills to assess strategic options.
