Responsibilities:Special Ed Connection® is an online, subscriber-based resource for K-12 school personnel and attorneys. The reporter in this position is part of a team whose aim is to produce high-quality content for this website as well as for the monthly Charter School Special Education Compliance Advisor. Your work will involve interviewing sources and writing articles on a daily basis about issues that are timely and pertinent to special educators. This work involves learning about your readers and the issues that most concern them, as well as working to build a larger pool of experts who can provide insights to the readers. The stories you write will highlight best practices to serve charter school students with disabilities, as well as provide tips to provide postsecondary transition services to students with disabilities in traditional K-12 schools, based on legal cases and insightful analysis.File a minimum of three stories per week on these topics for Special Ed Connection®. Contribute to other areas of the Web site once you've gained subject-matter knowledge.Produce 12 8-page issues a year of Charter School Special Education Compliance Advisor.Conduct extensive phone interviews to elicit advice-type information.Establish a network of sources in the field.- Write stories providing practical information that readers can use in their day-to-day jobs.- Develop and update story budgets.- Work closely with legal editors, copy editors and editorial directors.- Attend conferences as needed.- Write a web coverage plan every month from information gathered from sources, subscribers, conferences and other means.
