MARKETING MANAGER – Scholastic Classroom Magazines

Scholastic Classroom Magazines is the world’s largest publisher and distributor of print and digital magazines to children in grades PreK – 12. With 30 titles to manage and 500,000 customers, the marketing department oversees circulation/sales, distribution, market research, customer communications, and digital usage.

We are seeking a marketing manager who specializes in renewals in addition to other marketing skills. This position is responsible for developing marketing plans for renewal direct mail, insert, ads and other retention programs throughout the year. Responsibilities include monitoring renewal performance by magazine, track renewal rates and inventory for all premiums, and work closely with the marketing team to stay up-to-date on product changes, improvements, special issues etc. Our ideal candidate is someone who is task-oriented yet flexible with new projects, has creative sensibility to oversee promotional materials, and is excellent at understanding campaign results and reporting.

Role and Responsibilities:
Develop, implement and analyze mailed renewal promotions for 28 classroom magazine titles and 3 professional magazine titles. Tasks include marketing plans, list selection, copy and creative coordination, forecasting, mail and processing instructions, reporting and analysis
Manage subscription premium program including annual order, inventory management, internal exchanges, forecasts and budgets
Serve as marketing liaison for the outbound phone team; create and traffic sales collateral requests, provide database support and communication
Spearhead all marketing initiatives for display ads, both print and online; monitor and create internal and external banner ads, house ads and professional magazine space ads; coordinate and schedule insertions for bundled magazines
Negotiate and update NYC magazine contract and manage other outside and internal divisional relationships
Tackle special projects assigned by senior management on an ad hoc basis

Skills and Requirements:
Education – Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Communication or other related coursework
Minimum of 5+ years marketing/circulation experience
Experience as a proven retention expert preferred
Good communication and writing skills
Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
Must be able to handle multiple projects simultaneously
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and fulfill ad hoc requests in a timely manner
Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
Strong influence and relationship management skills; comfortable interacting with all management levels
Strong computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word and Powerpoint
