A leading content marketing agency is looking for a talented, sophisticated freelance Art Director in the Denver/Boulder area to execute and deliver visual design direction for a national luxury travel magazine published three times a year.In this role, you will oversee the entire design and production of the magazine from concept to final print production, approval, and archiving. With a passion for luxury travel, you are a pro at telling visual stories that inspire readers who are accustomed to elegance. You’ll be proud of this magazine and so will our clients.Your responsibilities will include: •Editorial lineup, concept, brainstorming, and page-by-page mock-up development•Define word counts for story assignments•Work with Photo Editor on stock photography research and acquisition•Work with Photo Editor on courtesy photography research and acquisition•Work with Photo Editor to commission photography for all stories where sufficient stock photography is not available•Photo shoot planning, art direction, shot list development and communication•Assign all necessary illustration or typography •Work with Photo Editor to color correct and retouch all stock and commissioned artwork •Invoice request, reception, and submittal•Contract and rights management for all commissioned and stock photography and illustration•Creation and management bookmap•Flowing of text into page layouts and all graphic design•Placement of provided ad materials within editorial layouts according to bookmap•Routing of edit proof rounds and completion of requested copy and art edits•PDF production and shipment to printer•Press checks•Online and color proof approval•Packaging of InDesign layouts for online useRequirements•3-5 years of experience in the design and art direction of compelling high-end consumer print magazines, preferably national•Mastery of InDesign and other Adobe CS programs •Thorough understanding of publication design architecture and pacing•Excellent use of typographic and composition skills•The ability to shape a project from conception to completion; on time, on budget, and on brand•Ability to work as a collaborative team with editor, agency staff, and client•Passion for the luxury travel categoryIf this sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you.
