Senior Account Manager
Department Overview:Station Relations (SR) represents and markets WGBH’s editorial programs and services for television, radio, digital platforms and education outlets to public media (public radio and public television) stations across the U.S. SR also represents organizations that WGBH partners with for public media initiatives. Station Relations interacts daily with a range of professionals at public television, radio and joint licensee stations -- from development, programming and outreach to promotion, leadership and production. We create and implement strategic plans and campaigns. These engage and empower stations to be the local “retailer” of the national initiatives WGBH and its partners are conducting. These also support station goals for audiences, supporters, sponsors, partners, educators and influentials in their communities. In addition to informal and ongoing engagement, SR fields research surveys to identify public media trends within the evolving media environment.Position Overview:Under the direction of the Director of Local/National Station Marketing, the Senior Account Manager develops strategies and creates and implements budgets and campaigns for WGBH editorial content and institutional initiatives, and for external partners’ projects. The SAM supervises SR staff and manages relationships with internal and external clients and is responsible for growing and maintaining relationships with public media station executives. The Senior Account Manager is responsible for integrating SR strategies and activities with WGBH colleagues and departments, including Sponsorship, Radio, Research, Educational Programming and Outreach, Digital, National Marketing. He/she manages project timelines, budgets and expenditures; supervises with department staff on print and digital collateral; generates station surveys; oversees events and communications; and management resolution of issues and controversies. Overall, the SAM takes a lead, proactive role in projects in alignment with WGBH’s mission and goals. Some travel as well as evening and weekend work is expected.Skills Required:The SAM should excel at leadership, client relations, teamwork and analysis, including industry trends. Excellent written and oral communications skills are required, as is the ability to prioritize and juggle many tasks, often under deadline, while remaining organized and detail-oriented. The ability to work in a collaborative manner with an aptitude for cultivating positive relationships is essential, as are maturity, poise and self-direction in handling responsibilities. Broadcast and digital industry knowledge is essential. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Filemaker and Excel, with excellent writing and editing skills required.
