The Office of Communications
Reporting to the Dean’s office, the Office of Communications is the school’s primary communications department responsible for promoting the MIT Sloan brand and its various programs and initiatives to the MIT Sloan community and the world. The Office serves as the school’s internal creative agency and media relations department.

Strategy and Planning Manager
Reporting to the Associate Director of Strategy & Planning, the Strategy and Planning Manager will support the account management function for the Office of Communications (OC) and will maintain the processes by which the copy, design, web development, and media relations functions will work together to develop communications to meet the needs of the School. Specifically the related areas of responsibility include:

Account/Project Management Expectations:
•Collaborate with Director of Strategy & Planning, and the senior OC team when required, to develop and present strategies for individual projects (primarily websites but could extend to social media, email outreach and more) for both client facing and Office of Communications-specific projects
•Work with the Director of Strategy and Planning to bring innovative, cutting edge solutions to enhance the Office of Communications marketing opportunities
•Liaise with clients across MIT Sloan to discuss and identify their communications needs and determine whether they can be supported internally or provide alternate external solutions for their marketing needs
•Act as the link between the client and OC once projects have begun by maintaining regular contact with both, ensuring that communication flows effectively;
•Write and present individual project creative briefs and/or points-of-view (POV’s)
•Collaborate with the senior Strategy and Planning and OC team to develop, write, and present incremental project proposals, scopes of work, and staffing plans (for projects beyond the contracted retainer).
•Serve as the key keeper of all project information and keep others (internally and externally) appropriately informed at all times.
•Manage all projects/jobs to budget and schedule and proactively report progress to the S&P team, other department heads and to the Senior Director in the OC
•Act as the OC account lead across every aspect of the client relationship: develop rapport/build relationships, prepare for and run meetings, follow up and follow through to project completion
•Collaborate with OC /MIT Sloan Finance contacts to establish new client billing processes

•Demonstrate a solid understanding of marketing communications industry trends across peer schools and related industries, and use this knowledge to add value to internal/external client work.

Learning and Development Expectations:
•Learn and maintain a solid understanding of the different academic programs specific marketing
needs, target audiences, and competitive set.
•Be knowledgeable of the OC department’s capabilities and applicable processes/systems for workflow and communications process (i.e. strategy development, creative process, design, copy and development interaction, production, etc.)
•Maintain a solid understanding of individual project budgets and financials


Required:
•Minimum of 4 years experience in an agency/marketing communications setting
•Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or relevant Master’s degree preferred
•Excellent written and oral communication skills
•Pro-active, problem solving, innovative, and logic-driven
•Confident, action-oriented, enthusiastic team player
•Dedication to delivering superb customer service both internally and to clients
•Excellent account management skills
•Strong understanding of production requirements for various communications formats primarily web, mobile, video, social and email platforms
•Must be comfortable presenting to diverse audiences both internally at the OC and externally to clients
•Effective interpersonal skills; ability to work independently and to lead members of a team

Preferred:
•Experience working in higher education or similar organization
