Ad Age is seeking a strategic, creative thinker to be its new director of CRM and audience development. This role is responsible for driving audience revenue and growing and cultivating our audience database. This person should be a skilled digital and direct marketer with a strong understanding of customer acquisition and retention strategies, subscription management, social media, web analytics and related technologies.
The CRM and audience development director will work with the senior management team to refine and implement the audience strategy for Ad Age and grow the associated revenue. This role is also responsible for creating annual audience development budgets, and managing to those budgets.

Key job responsibilities include:
o Develop a pricing, packaging & promotional strategy that drives subscriptions to and purchases of paid content
o Optimize the registration processes to bring in more registrants and add key data on those users over time
o Oversee retention promotion to drive renewals, repeat purchases and revenue per user; reactivate lapsed customers
o Maximize size and health of email lists
o Collaborate with the integrated marketing manager (a direct report) to define audience-promotion strategy, media mix
o Develop affiliate channels where appropriate
o Define key performance metrics and ensure regular tracking and reporting on those to senior management team
o Work with the Crain circulation operations team and audit manager to prepare and file audit statements when due
o Manage a small but hardworking marketing and audience development team
o Oversee the relationship with Crain-centralized departments, such as customer service
The idea candidate will have:
• Strong (7+ years) experience in digital and direct marketing
• Familiarity with CRM strategies and systems, marketing automation tools
• Experience working on subscription products
• A strong customer focus
• Advanced working knowledge of Excel, Google Analytics and other analysis tools • An aptitude for management and organization
• Bachelor’s degree
• Experience with e-commerce and BtoB brands, products or services are considered pluses
