Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) reports accurate and reliable news and information to domestic audiences in Eurasia and the Middle East in 28 languages, reaching 23.4 million listeners and online visitors every week. We are seeking a smart, self-starting and resourceful Media Relations Officer to join the company’s small communications team at its Washington, D.C. corporate headquarters and play a leading role in promoting its journalism among audiences and constituencies in the U.S.

The Media Relations Officer will have primary responsibility for developing RFE/RL’s English language audiences via traditional public outreach, digital and social media, and media partnerships. As an integral part of RFE/RL’s Communications staff, reporting to the Deputy Director of Communications & External Relations, the Officer would also participate in outreach to the U.S. Congress, policy makers, analysts, media, NGOs, and academia to generate awareness about and increase the visibility of RFE/RL content and journalists. Primary job expectations include: developing and managing partnerships with major print and electronic media; identifying opportunities within U.S. policymaking and analytical communities for promoting RFE/RL journalists and journalism; producing informational and promotional English-language materials about RFE/RL for distribution via email, its website and partner websites, social media channels, and other platforms; planning and executing online and in-person events and briefings; managing media inquiries; and providing data support for Communications products

Qualifications:

- BA degree in journalism, international relations or related discipline.
- Four to six years of public relations, communications, and/or journalism experience, including excellent verbal and written communication, networking, and representational skills.
- Knowledge of foreign affairs, including ability to communicate effectively about foreign policy issues as they relate to RFE/RL target regions.
- Knowledge of the Washington, DC political, think-tank and media environment.
- Proficiency with website and social media management and promotion.
- Experience in organizing live, in-person and online PR events, both large and small.
- Ability to work effectively in multi-cultural environment among highly diverse staff.
- English as a first language.
- Proficiency in an RFE/RL language is a plus.
