Digital Journalist / Reporter
Channel One News, a 10-minute daily news show seen by millions of students, is seeking a talented, enthusiastic digital journalist / reporter to cover domestic and international news stories in a creative, compelling and fun way.A Channel One digital journalist/reporter does it all – pitch, produce, shoot, write, edit and appear on camera. Our digital journalists have the opportunity to travel the world, covering breaking news, and produce magazine-style features and series.The job is fulltime benefitted, non-union in New York City. The shift is Sunday through Thursday.Responsibilities include:-Generate story pitches and participate in editorial process from start to end-Set-up, write, shoot and edit breaking news and feature stories -Shoot / produce for other reporters, and report and front their own stories-Operate in the field either as one-man-band reporter or paired with another reporterSkills / Requirements: -Editorial: oStrong production, writing and broadcast skills oSolid news judgment and awareness of current events oCreative story-telling abilities and understanding of story arcoAssertive booking skills and ability to identify compelling charactersoAttention to detail and accuracy -Technical:oProficiency in DV shooting (Sony Z5 or equivalent) both on tripod and handheldoProficiency in camera audio, including multiple microphone set-up oBasic knowledge of lighting for formal interview settings, as well as run and gun situationsoProficiency in desktop editing – expertise in Avid a plusoBasic understanding of FTP systems-Must be able to travel both domestically and internationally-Must have a valid Driver’s LicenseBachelor’s Degree or equivalent job experience plus 2-5 years experience in video news production required. We are a small and tight knit group of journalists- traditional production roles are fluid and there is an expectation to “chip in” where necessary Include cover letter with resume.
