Are you worried that your boss will fire you if he finds out you’ve been reading Reddit, Facebook and Twitter all day long? How’s this for an opportunity: We’ll fire you if we find out you’re NOT reading Reddit, Facebook and Twitter all day long.

BGR Media, LLC is looking to immediately fill an opening for Social Media Manager / Writer. Based anywhere in the United States, your job will be to manage BGR’s presence on key social media platforms, to interact with and expand our audience, and to write original content that appeals to users of those platforms.

This is a hybrid position with a competitive salary. You will split your time between creating original content and promoting content published by the BGR team.

Job highlights:

  • Repackage content published on BGR.com and present it to our social audiences on Facebook and Twitter. You should have a knack for knowing what will and will not resonate. You should also be able to rewrite headlines so that they appeal specifically to our audiences on each platform.

  • Do more than post links. Engage our social media audience. Participate in conversations, answer questions, post photos and videos, and occasionally highlight interesting content published on sites other than BGR.com.

  • Learn from our social media audience and help us grow. You’re the expert — produce reports the help our editorial team to better understand what resonates on sites like Facebook and Twitter, and what does not.

  • Tell us what we’re missing. Should we be on Tumblr? Are we doomed without Snapchat? Does our Myspace page need to be updated?

  • Write 2-3 pieces of original content each day specifically targeting our social media audience. Topics include but are not limited to web culture, technology, entertainment, politics, television, movies, and kittens. Lots of kittens.

  • Produce brief original video content. You don’t need to be an expert in Final Cut Pro, but you should be able to make fun, topical, original videos to be published on Facebook and on BGR.com.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Between 3 and 5 years of experience in online publishing as a content producer or a social media manager.

  • An extensive knowledge of areas including social media, consumer electronics, entertainment and web culture.

  • A firm grasp of the English language and the ability to write clear, compelling content.

  • A willingness to work hard as part of a small team.

Please submit your resume along with a cover letter that briefly explains why you're the right person for the job. Be sure to include specific accomplishments from prior social media roles, as well as links to previously published work that you are particularly proud of, if available.
