Associate Editor - Family Circle
The Associate Editor in the Family Circle articles department will be expected to:
*Conceive of, assign and edit a range of magazine content specifically in sync with our readers' needs and life stage. Topics could include-but are not limited to-personal/family finance, consumer awareness, parenting tweens/teens, pets, and women making a difference in their communities.
*Effectively manage time in order to facilitate a steady stream of brainstorming, pitching and editing tasks, plus take on special editorial projects and assist with administrative needs as requested.
*Contribute to familycircle.com on an ongoing basis. Help increase engagement among existing social media users (Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest) and come up with innovative, brand-appropriate ways to recruit new ones.
Essential Job Functions
45% Conceive of a variety of magazine articles and shepherd through editorial process from pitch through publication
25% Contribute to digital and social media initiatives
25% Take on assorted editorial assignments/projects and periodic administrative tasks
5% Responsible for recruiting and managing interns
Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements | All must be met to be considered.
B.A. or equivalent, preferably in English, Journalism or similar subject concentration
A minimum of 5 years of editorial experience, preferably with at least 2 years at a service magazine
Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
*Take-charge editor able to accurately assess copy and send back to writer with detailed feedback to inform revision. Ultimately willing to do whatever is necessary to whip a story into shape.
*Able to capably generate creative heds, deks and story packaging ideas.
*Ongoing relationships with solid writers able to pitch and deliver quality raw copy.
*Equally comfortable working independently or collaboratively as part of a team.
* Positive, willing-to-do-anything attitude. Self-starter and problem solver happy to pitch and try new things in an always-evolving publishing/media environment.
*Knowledge of Drupal (web-based content management system) and/or WoodWing publication management platform a plus.
*Experience using and managing social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest) and assessing related analytics a plus.
