Sounds True, a multimedia publisher of mind, body, and spirit titles, is seeking an experienced Managing Editor to manage our production editorial department, handling approximately 30–40 titles per year from edited manuscript to bound and digital books.

This is a full-time position that is based in our Louisville, Colorado office. The Managing Editor will report to the Editorial Director.

 

Responsibilities include:

· Creating and managing the production editorial budget

· Managing Sounds True’s team of production editors

· Serving as production editor on 10 titles to ensure that all books are 1) well edited, 2) copyedited, 3) proofread, 4) indexed, and 5) sent to manufacturing on time

· Collating proofs and checking corrections

· Hiring freelance copyeditors, proofreaders, indexers, typesetters, and transcriptionists, as well as reviewing their work

· Working with the book production coordinator to manage the company's book production schedule

· Attending weekly production meetings

· Cultivating relationships with and managing Sounds True authors

· Assisting editors on the endorsements process for 10 titles a year

· Running a weekly book team meeting

· Attending the weekly editorial meeting to brainstorm new book ideas and review manuscripts submitted for publishing consideration

The ideal candidate:

· Has at least 2 years of experience working in production editorial with a book publisher

· Possesses strong writing skills and attention to detail, and is a meticulous copyeditor and proofreader

· Has a bachelor’s degree in English, Comparative Literature, Publishing, or Writing

· Has strong interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills

· Is responsive and willing to stay in close and consistent communication with the production, art, and copy teams—in addition to our authors—in order to keep projects on course

· Has excellent project management and planning skills

· Is proactive, well-organized, and excellent with deadlines and juggling multiple tasks at once

· Excels at team management and has the ability to lead a team in the production of stellar final books that are free of errors and on time

· Has a knowledge of The Chicago Manual of Style and Microsoft Office Suite

· Has a genuine connection to the mission of Sounds True

· Ebook production knowledge and experience a plus
