Job Summary | Major goals and objectives.

Martha Stewart Living , the award-winning magazine, is looking for a senior editor to cover a variety of lifestyle topics, including home and entertaining, as well as work on cross-beat features. The ideal candidate is a clever wordsmith, a quick worker, a creative thinker, and someone who likes to work in a collaborative environment and develop highly engaging and well-reported stories. Writing and editing in a fun, fresh, and smart tone are a must (experience editing beauty or fashion a plus). This newly created position will play an important role in the magazine as it evolves into a go-to source for both its devoted longtime subscribers and the young, modern reader.

Responsibilities include:

  • Generating fresh ideas and devising unique ways to package them as stories
  • Conceptualizing, developing, assigning, and editing stories for both the FOB and feature well.
  • Collaborating closely with the home editor and core editors, as well as the art and photo departments, to execute stories in a timely, efficient and visually arresting manner.
  • Bringing in new writers and overseeing current ones.
  • Maintaining industry relations, staying on top of trends, also helping with some market work.



Essential Job Functions

20 Generating fresh ideas and devising unique ways to package them as stories

30 Conceptualizing, developing, assigning, and editing stories for both the FOB and feature well.

20 Collaborating closely with the home editor and core editors, as well as the art and photo departments, to execute stories in a timely, efficient and visually arresting manner.

5 Bringing in new writers and overseeing current ones.

10 Maintaining industry relations, staying on top of trends, also helping with some market work.

Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements | All must be met to be considered.

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Journalism or related field, or equivalent training and/or experience.

Experience:

Six to eight years related experience at a large consumer magazine.

Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Excellent copywriting and editing skills

Excellent organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Must have knowledge of magazine-related web and tablet applications

Must be extremely organized with ability to juggle a lot of responsibilities, especially during large issues.
