Job Description

Looking for an editor who is obsessed with Millennial pop culture and tapped into the zeitgeist to edit the Parents to Parents front-of-the-book news section for Parents magazine. This editor will be in charge of packaging the section's mix of profiles, quirky news items, trend pieces, humor, and other news items each month. Looking for someone with excellent copywriting and packaging skills, creative ideas, and ways to spin today's news for a future issue.

The editor is also responsible for assigning and editing general features and our child developmental department features, Ages & Stages.

The editor helps create issue lineups, edits and assigns columns and features and, in collaboration with the art department, assures the quality of story design, graphic elements, and production. The ideal candidate should be a fast, enterprising editor who can come up with creative ideas, quickly capture the unique voice, champion reader's interests and consistently meet tight deadlines.

pitches, writes and edits Parents to Parents section / general features

Assigns and edits two Ages & Stages columns per issue

Blogs, produces video and/or other web duties

Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements | All must be met to be considered.

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Journalism or related field, or equivalent training and/or experience.

Experience:

2-4 years magazine writing and/or editing experience.

Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Excellent writing skills, with the ability to translate those to others.

Knowledge and love of pop culture.
Strong leadership skills.
Knowledge and experience editing and managing freelance writers
Demonstrate creativity in story conception and development, including strong visual skills.
