Job Summary | Major goals and objectives.

Martha Stewart Living, the award-winning magazine, is looking for an Executive Editor to work with the Editor-in-Chief to oversee the brand in print and digitally.The ideal candidate has 8+ years writing, assigning, reporting, and editing for magazines and websites. Experience writing/editing home, entertaining, beauty, health, travel, and style stories are pluses. This person is a creative thinker, detail oriented, a master packager, great at writing display, and she/he has solid experience managing others. Candidates need to excel at working in a collaborative environment to develop highly engaging stories with core editors and freelancers. The Executive Editor will collaborate closely with the EIC to evolve the brand into a go-to source for both its devoted longtime subscribers and the young, modern reader.

Essential Job Functions

50%

Assigns and edits or top-edits content for the entire magazine; collaborates with the art and style departments to develop and produce each issue. Manages and mentors junior editors.

20%

Works with digital team to develop content for .com and other brand extensions.

10%

Brings editorial projects in on time and on budget.

10%

Improves and increases the visibility of the brand; represents the brand in public appearances.

10%

Works as the primary liaison between editorial and advertising for the magazine; represents the magazine in client meetings and industry events.

Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements | All must be met to be considered.

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Journalism or related field, or equivalent training and/or experience.

Experience:

At least 8 years' experience writing, assigning, reporting, and editing for magazines and websites. Experience writing/editing home, entertaining, beauty, health, travel, and style stories are pluses. Solid experience managing others.
